US citizens require a visa to travel to Tanzania for all purposes. The Tanzanian Government has changed its visa issuance method to an e Visa option only. All traditional stamped visa options have been replaced by the new e Visa requirement. US citizens and all other eligible nationalities must apply for their visa prior to arrival in Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, although a visa issued on arrival to most nationalites is possible the Tanzanian Government strongly discourages this option as long immigration lines and wait times of over two hours at International Airports are common.
